When they get back to their community, Flint Sky tells Jaguar Paw not to ever let fear get the better of him after observing that the refugees are ill with fear.
Later that evening, the tribe assembles around an elder who shares a prophecy about a being who, in spite of all the gifts handed to him, is consumed by an unsatisfied emptiness. The creature will keep consuming mindlessly until the planet is gone and there is nothing left for him to take.
